Introduction
This Game Master Agreement (“Agreement”) is entered into by and between Roll2Heal, a nonprofit organization (“Organization”), and the undersigned individual (“Game Mas ter”), a veteran or first responder serving as a Game Master for Roll2Heal’s tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) sessions. The purpose of this Agreement is to clarify the nature of Roll2Heal’s services, outline Game Master responsibilities, and establish the Organization’s non-liability for certain actions or outcomes.
By signing this Agreement, the Game Master acknowledges understanding and agreeing to the terms outlined below.
1. Purpose and Scope of Roll2Heal Sessions
Roll2Heal organizes TTRPG sessions to provide a supportive and recreational community for veterans and first responders. These sessions are designed to foster social engagement, camaraderie, and stress relief through collaborative storytelling and gaming
Non-Therapeutic Nature: Roll2Heal sessions are not therapy or mental health treatment. They are recreational activities intended to promote relaxation and social connection, which may help alleviate stress associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but are not designed or intended to treat or manage PTSD or any other medical or psychological condition
No Professional Services: Roll2Heal does not employ licensed therapists or medical professionals to provide clinical services during sessions. Game Masters should not consider their role or participation in Roll2Heal activities as a substitute for professional mental health care
2. Non-Liability for Game Master Actions
Roll2Heal is not responsible or liable for the actions, behaviors, or decisions of any Game Master, including those that may be influenced by PTSD or other mental health conditions. Specifically
PTSD Episodes: The Organization acknowledges that some Game Masters may experience PTSD-related episodes. Roll2Heal is not liable for any harm, injury, or damages caused by a Game Master’s actions during or as a result of such episodes, whether to themselves, other participants, or third parties
Independent Actions: Game Masters are solely responsible for their own con duct during and outside of Roll2Heal sessions. The Organization does not assume responsibility for monitoring or controlling Game Master behavior
3. Encouragement of Peer Support
Roll2Heal fosters a community of mutual support among participants. While the Organization does not provide professional crisis intervention, Game Masters are encouraged to
Reach out to one another or other participants for emotional support during times of distress, including PTSD-related crises, in a manner that is respectful and con sensual
Share resources, such as contact information for professional mental health services, when appropriate
Game Masters acknowledge that any peer support provided is voluntary and not facilitated or supervised by Roll2Heal. The Organization is not liable for the outcomes of such interactions
4. Release of Liability
By participating in Roll2Heal sessions as a Game Master, the Game Master agrees to release, waive, and discharge Roll2Heal, its officers, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to
Any physical, emotional, or financial harm experienced during or as a result of participation in Roll2Heal sessions.
Any actions taken by other participants, including those related to PTSD or other mental health conditions
The Game Master’s own actions or decisions during or outside of sessions.
This release of liability is intended to protect Roll2Heal from legal action, including but not limited to lawsuits related to Game Master conduct or the outcomes of participation
5. Game Master Responsibilities
Game Masters agree to:
Facilitate Roll2Heal sessions respectfully and in good faith, adhering to community guidelines provided by the Organization
Complete the VA S.A.V.E. training, provided via a link from Roll2Heal and devel oped by the Veteran Health Administration, to enhance their ability to recognize and respond appropriately to signs of mental health distress among participants. Proof of completion must be submitted to Roll2Heal prior to facilitating sessions.
Seek professional mental health care from licensed providers for the treatment of PTSD or other medical or psychological conditions, as needed.
Acknowledge that Roll2Heal is not a substitute for professional care and that participation is at the Game Master’s own risk
6. Termination of Participation
Roll2Heal reserves the right to terminate a Game Master’s participation in sessions at its discretion, including for behavior that disrupts the community, failure to complete the VA S.A.V.E. training, or violation of this Agreement. Termination does not affect the Game Master’s obligations under this Agreement
7. Acknowledgment and Signature
By signing below, the Game Master acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. The Game Master further acknowledges that Roll2Heal sessions are recreational, non-therapeutic activities, that they are required to complete the VA S.A.V.E. training, and that the Organization is not liable for Game Master actions or outcomes related to participation
